This guide explains how to access and configure the NET485-MB for basic Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU communication. It covers using Lantronix DeviceInstaller to locate the device, access the web configuration page, and verify serial and Modbus/TCP settings.
System Requirements
- Windows OS
- DeviceInstaller (Lantronix Website)
Steps to Access the Web Configuration
If the device does not appear under Lantronix Devices, ensure you are using the correct network adapter.
In the example, Wi-Fi is selected, but it must be changed to Ethernet to detect the device.
Go to Tools → Options, select Ethernet, and save the changes.
Once configured, the NET485 will appear as an XPort Device.
On the left panel, scroll down to the IP address, double-click it, and you’ll be taken to the Web Configuration page.
When prompted for a username and password, leave both fields blank and press Enter.
Serial Settings
On the Serial Settings page, confirm the following parameters match your connected Modbus device:
- Channel mode (RS-485 or RS-422, depending on wiring)
- Baud rate
- Data bits
- Parity
- Stop bits
All serial parameters must match exactly on both devices for communication to work properly.
Modbus/TCP Settings
The next screen should be Modbus/TCP. The values on this page depend on your Modbus device, but in most cases, the default settings are correct. Only adjust them if your Modbus software or controller specifies different requirements.
Once both the serial and Modbus/TCP parameters are configured, the NET485-MB will act as a pass-through gateway, bridging communication between your Modbus RTU device and Modbus TCP client.
